Jeff Barrett of the splendid Caught By The River site has asked me to come and play a few records at this years Port Eliot literary festival. It is simply the loveliest place to be. Drinking beer listening to and playing music and being inspired by talks all in an amazing setting by an estuary of the River Tamar. What more can you ask ?

A lucky stop at the charity shop has unearthed some mysterious old records. For those not familiar with FreeRange Music and it’s sister, Spoonful Sound System, let me quickly explain. FreeRange Music is recorded in my kitchen with my friend Mike Brett. The show allows us to broadcast to the Falmouth & Penryn area of Cornwall (also online The Source FM) We play whatever we want. It’s as simple as that. If the Joe Loss Orchestra are getting on your nerves don’t worry as The Clash, Miles Davis or a scratchy old Venezuelan 45 may be along any minute. Sometimes the show is recorded whilst trying (and often failing) to keep 5 children happy. Mikes music choices can get on my nerves but it’s a free kitchen, and he’s my friend so he can do what he likes. Spoonful allows me to play parties blasting out Cajun, Blues, Rock & Roll anything that makes people laugh and jump around. Freerange Music lurches into gear again

Well we’ve just recorded 2 new shows to be broadcast very soon on The Source 96.1 FM. This Saturday we hopefully will record a third ! I’m sure Tony Blackburn would think we are slackers on a grand scale. But our show recorded in my kitchen reflects some of the chaos of family living so surely it’s right if that chaos should bring our broadcasts to a grinding halt sometimes.
